FWIW, when CSX resignaled a line in the 1990s, they used single triangle
heads for block signals and they added a blinking yellow aspect.
When they recently redid this same line, they used double vertical
head (some call it the 'Darth Vader' signal). What used to be a simple
green is now a green over red. The new signal has a number plate, but to
   my surprise it is tiny.
