|    A.C Slugs?    |

Like many regional lines, the Iowa Interstate Railroad used to exclusively use       old locomotives, SD40-2 and such, but has now purchased new GE Evolution       series units. Two of these have enough horsepower to move their longer trains,       but not enough tractive        effort for the steepest part of the route. The railroad therefore puts one of       their old units into the consist for extra pulling power. This would seem to       be a logical application for traction slugs, and in fact the Iowa Interstate       has several slugs in        their fleet, but these are D.C. units paired with older locomotives. Has any       railroad yet put into use traction slugs that are powered from A.C.       locomotives?              Peter Wezeman       anti-social Darwinist              --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03        * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1)    |
