   I do not think it is practically possible - the kinetic energy involved   
   in a derailment of a loaded oil train is very high.   
   Even if you made double-hulled oil cans, like the double-hulled tanker   
   ships, that wouldn't guarantee you will get no puncture.   
      
   Maybe (just maybe) the gasses inside the crude oil tend to pressure the   
   oil tanks too much, and escape at the slightest opportunity? Maybe the   
   domes of these cars should be enlarged, offering more room for expansion?   
      
   The best idea is to avoid these derailments, in my opinion.   
   If that means shorter oil trains (= smaller forces) or lower speeds, I   
   don't know. And track maintenance is important, of course.
