AFter the WVa accident, politicians are calling for tighter regulations on
oil trains, especially those passing through populated areas. They want
more inspectors and stronger cars (the recent accident had the newest
stronger design, and the train was moving slow).

The Bakun oil has highly flammable gases that are more present in this oil
than in other types of crudes. It seems that the best solution would be to
pre-process the oil to remove those gases. Several months ago Trains
Magazine did a detailed report on this.

There has been a new derailment of an oil train:

Six cars of a 105-car train carrying crude oil derailed near Galena,
Illinois, Thursday. Two cars caught fire and burned throughout the night.
The train was carrying gassy oil from the Bakken Shale formation of North
   Dakota
