   Boston still hasn't recovered from this year's unusually heavy snow.  The most   
   recent big storm was on Sunday 2/15.     
      
   It took until yesterday to get all the subway lines back in service.  For a   
   reason that was never explained, they needed to hire people off the street to   
   dig out the Braintree branch by hand.  But peak train frequencies are still   
   below normal, supposedly    
   due to DC traction motor failures.     
      
   The commuter rail is in even worse shape.  Its regular schedule isn't known   
   for being frequent, but they had to issue a special reduced schedule for last   
   week and this week, with about a third of trains cancelled.  Even so, they've   
   had many *additional*    
   unplanned cancellations and hour+ delays due to locomotive, signal, and switch   
   failures.   
      
   Outside locomotives are being leased, but it will be at least another week   
   until they arrive.
