Unfortunately, grade separation projects are       extremely expensive and disruptive. I don't know how the LIRR managed to do       them in the 1950s and 1960s or who paid for them. Likewise with SIRT.        Perhaps back in the 1950s        there was less red tape and opposition to property acquisition and building       demolition than there is today.
