   It would seem that the section of the third rail near the train tripped off   
   quite quickly. Or was it the other way around? In any case, the passengers   
   could have died by remaining in the train. They should have walked down the   
   middle of the track to safety. Even as a kid on the subway every day, I   
   knew that much. And the third rail is never under the platform: it is on   
   the opposite side.
