   On certain nights here in Portland they keep MAX running all night to   
   help keep the contact wire clear of ice.  They have a special ice   
   breaking edge they put on the pantographs to help break off the ice but   
   it can't deal with extremely heavy ice, so they have to run the trains   
   over it regularly.   
      
   If this type of weather happened more often here they would probably   
   have a special heater on the contact wire like this one:
