   When I was a kid I used to put coins and matchsticks on the streetcar   
   track near my school. When the streetcar ran over the matchsticks they   
   made a nice popping sound.   
      
   Once, during a summer vacation, I filled a tin box with water, added   
   some carbide, put the lid on it and glued it to the rail with tar. When   
   the train ran over it it blew with a loud bang. The engineer hit the   
   brakes - and me and my friends hit the nearby woods...
