From: srfurley@googlemail.com              XPost: nyc.general, alt.society.labor-unions, alt.railroad       XPost: alt.machines.cnc              Tunnels on the London Underground system have been penetrated a couple of       times in the last decade or so, most recently in Islington where a new       building was being constructed above a tunnel which was originally intended       to be part of a main-line railway, became part of the London Underground for       many years until 1975 and is now part of the National Rail network. It       seems that the tunnel was not shown on the map being used by the       contractors, possibly due to confusion caused by the change of ownership.       This sort of thing certainly gives serious cause for concern.              Is it know what caused the penetration of the tunnel in Queens? Was the       hole being bored in the wrong place? Was the tunnel shown as being in the       wrong place? Had the site been incorrectly surveyed? What on Earth have       'Union workers' got to do with it.              The Islington incident was on a short section of underground railway where a       terrible accident happened just before the line closed as part of the       Underground system when a train ran at speed into a dead-end tunnel at       Moorgate, three stations further South, resulting in many deaths.       Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the drilling accident.              --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03        * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1)    |
