   I think the ballast was lowered in the 1930s to install the overhead   
   catenary.  From pictures it seems like a very tight fit, even though the   
   tunnels were supposedly designed to allow future installation of catenary.   
      
   FWIW, the tunnel and station signal heads are the same as installed in 1910.    
   I would suspect that the innards have been replaced.   
      
   Our Penna Sta tourguide told us that if a train passes a double red, it is a   
   major screw up and messes up many train movements.
