   My guess is that the engineman was "trying to hard" on wet rail.   
      
   HHP-8's could have wheelslip problems on bad rail,   
   especially during "leaf season".   
      
   The workaround was to simply "throttle back" on bad rail.   
   No, you won't accelerate as quickly as using higher power,   
   but an engine that's slipping badly won't accelerate anyway,   
   and may actually lose speed...
