   Well, unless the authors are truly familiar with the situation in other   
   places, they should not attempt such comparisons, since they are misleading.   
      
   Years ago Newsday set out to compare the LIRR to other commuter systems.  The   
   reporters actually visited different cities and rode the commuter trains to   
   get a feal feel for the pluses and minusse.   
      
   If it were up to me, transit managers would visit other cities from the point   
   of view of both the passenger and employee, to see how other systems work, how   
   delays are handled, security, convenience, fare collection, etc.  But   
   generally, carrier policies    
   prohibit that sort of thing.  Heck, it seems that there's a brick wall between   
   the LIRR and MNRR despite both being part of the MTA.
