IJ> Semester is ending and they had to cancel finals for this semester
IJ> because of the strike. I don't care so much because this isn't Amanda's
IJ> final year where she's looking to compete to get into college or
IJ> whatever. I can see the boards efforts and the union thwarting those
    IJ> efforts.

What are the teachers protesting about?

IJ> I'm voting for AI teachers any chance I get.

Hell yea. I'll take AI teachers over DEI teachers.

IJ> No, each province is separate each city might be as well... Edmonton
IJ> school board runs Edmonton... and so on... I was originally from Ontario
IJ> smaller town less that 100K... Kawartha Pine Ridge... it just includes

That's how it's supposed to be here too, but it's just not; the school boards
do precisely what the state legislature tells them to do, and they try to make
it look like they made the decisions themselves (they didn't.)

IJ> In the US they federalized things during the Carter admin. Seems Carter
IJ> got into office with the help of teachers and now we have the American
IJ> Federation of Teachers... and whatever... You don't need someone in
IJ> Washington telling you what you need teach or do in Georgia.

You're right about that, but while schools rely on federal grants (which they
do but shouldn't) then they ought to do what the Dept. of Ed. tells them to
do. Linda McMahon was in NY recently but she's turning a blind eye to all the
DEI stuff that she's supposed to be shuttering.

IJ> I think the school systems should be geared up to make people
IJ> productive. Edmonton should have shop classes the colleges should be
IJ> geared up to educate people in meaningful trades that help society from
IJ> the ground up. Whereas Calgary should have plans for their young people
    IJ> as well.

You're right, they should. In other countries (Panama for example) the high
school kids are required to choose a trade and learn the basics of it before
graduation. My wife specialized in graphic design. In NY we have trade schools
for 11-12th graders (BOCES) but only a small fraction of the kids even go to
it, while the majority of the kids get very minimal or no guidance at all for
post secondary education. I learned everything the hard way and wasted tons of
   money and time.

IJ> NY has a different economy and demands than that of Wyoming and what not
IJ> same as Alberta is to Ontario.

Good point. They don't need DEI specialists in Wyoming, but they need them
   here. ;)
