   I didn't know about that until now. Based on what I just read, it accurately   
   describes the way things currently work even in my county, which is far from   
   NYC:   
      
   "With the mass influx of Irish immigrants in the 1840s, Tammany adapted its   
   strategy, providing jobs, housing, and other aid in exchange for votes. This   
   secured the loyalty of a large, reliable voting base."   
      
   The current regime in NY seems to be re-playing this old game once again, and   
   I bet that it's going to end the same way as last time: someone like Franklin   
   Roosevelt (Trump maybe) is going to destroy them.
