There was no reason for it, other than that       Russia wanted more land to reduce its perceived vulnerability. Finland was not       a threat to the Russians, but Stalin simply wanted more territory.              During the Winter War, Finland defended itself bravely, but its lack of       reliable partners proved fatal. It was strong enough not to be occupied by       Russia, but it wasn't until 1995 that it was able to decide to join the EU.       Its independence was an independence by the grace of Russia.              Now, if Trump gets his way, Ukraine is in danger of suffering the same fate.       It also has the misfortune of Russia wanting to solve a perceived       vulnerability, and if Russia has its way, Moscow will determine what the       country can and cannot do—that's if it isn't completely occupied by Russia.              It's not so strange that Finland is seen as the expert. The Finnish prime       minister has a good relationship with Trump... for what that's worth.              At the very least, it is a non-pro-Russian voice in Trump's ear. That alone is       a win. Most people around Trump are, after all, on Moscow's side. Now, let's       hope Trump remembers that voice when it counts.               .       --- SBBSecho 3.29-Linux        * Origin: End Of The Line BBS - endofthelinebbs.com (1:124/5016)       SEEN-BY: 103/705 105/81 106/201 124/0 5016 128/187 129/14 305 153/757       SEEN-BY: 153/7715 154/10 30 110 203/0 218/700 221/0 226/30 227/114       SEEN-BY: 229/110 114 206 300 307 317 400 426 428 470 700 705 240/1120       SEEN-BY: 240/5832 263/1 266/512 280/464 5003 5006 291/111 292/854       SEEN-BY: 292/8125 301/1 310/31 320/219 322/757 341/66 234 342/200       SEEN-BY: 396/45 423/120 460/58 256 1124 467/888 633/280 712/848 770/1       SEEN-BY: 902/26 5020/400 5054/30 5075/35       PATH: 124/5016 280/464 460/58 229/426           |
