   President Trump enthusiastically announced yesterday that import tariffs have   
   generated a whopping $27 billion.   
      
   To his supporters, he continues to present this as a win.   
      
   This means that importers (American companies) have paid $27 billion in taxes.   
      
   This $27 billion will either come out of consumers' wallets or reduce the   
   profits of these companies. If it's the latter, companies will have to cut   
   costs, which will lead to job losses, and jobs are essential for a strong   
   economy.   
      
   Something's got to give.   
      
   While Trump may be enthusiastic, the American economy is going to take a huge   
   hit, and it's because of these import tariffs. A tax cut for companies won't   
   help, as it will only increase the government's deficit.
