   Two systems through KVM, but I don't think that's the factor.   
      
   usb mice.  Originally plugged into KVM,  Other machine on KVM is XP and eCS.   
      
   KVM attached mouse works there (both OS's)- both cursor and buttons.    
      
   Also plugged a 2nd USB mouse into machine with problem - both to usb port and   
   through adapter to PS2 port.  No difference.   
      
   On ecs machine, mice move cursor, but  mouse buttons do not work.     
      
   Unplugging mouse2 from ecs machine USB port and plugging it into PS2 port   
   through an adapter; no change.   
      
   Reboots didn't help.   
      
   Now here's some additional info:   
      
   - Maint partition (also eCS) on failing machine did not work with ps2 adapter   
   ATTACHED mouse.  USB mouse drivers had not been installed (old KVM was ps2 and   
   I never updated the main part after the kvm died and was replaced).   
      
   - Linux live CD: mouse buttons work.   
      
   I think I'm looking at a hardware issue that somehow linux ducks.
