   I just tried "irs.gov" and that's exactly what it tried to connect   
   to - with no "www" or ".com" affixes (just look in the bottom left   
   corner of the window where the status bar used to be). The domain   
   exists (199.196.144.6) but doesn't host a webserver so you get no   
   response. No surprise there.
