   By the way:

does it work with the IBM 10.162 drivers ?
"Just before the WPS comes up": Can I therefore assume that all the RUN=
statements from config.sys are properly executed ?
(apart from the last call to PMSHELL.EXE of course)
If it hangs just before the WPS comes up, there is at least a good
indication that the drivers properly go past INIT and INIT_COMPLETE
which has been a persistent problem of the past.
