Maybe this is what fixes the problem that Dave described and you may also
   want to
   experiment with that:

invoke "gamemclk.exe" from the SNAP subdirectory:

"gamemclk.exe show" will give you some info about 2 different hardware
   clocks that your
graphics card uses: the hardware clock to access memory (memory clock) and
the hardware clock for the DAC to refresh the screen (engine clock)

If "gamemclk.exe show" gives you a section about the engine clock with
   default,current,maximum values then use "gamemclk.exe eset ..." to (re)set
the engine clock to the default value, example:

"gamemclk.exe eset 225" will (re)set the default engine clock to 225 MHz.

You can rerun "gamemclk.exe show" to check that your settings were properly
   picked up.

Then you might be able to reenable monitor detection via "gaoption.exe noddc
   off".

You will need to experiment. Unfortunately the SNAP PDF doc. does not
contain anything about "gamemclk" and Scitech is out of business/bought by
another company that immediately killed the product. But back at the time
some Scitech support guy told me to use it in order to get a problem fixed
that I seem to remember had to do with refresh rate.
