   My recollection is that I did that after the previous reboot and   
   felt confident that I wouldn't have the problem after the next   
   reboot, yet I was forced to reboot yesterday, and when it got to   
   the desktop, I was running blind again with the monitor complaining   
   about the refresh rate.   
      
   Is it possible that SNAP saves the refresh rate upon shutdown?  If   
   so, then I can understand why the change I've been making is not   
   sticking, because my reboots have usually been forced (a crash or   
   a lockup) rather than graceful shutdowns.
