A killer ap helps, but it's not enough. Apple II had Visicalc, but
Lotus 1-2-3 was better, Word Perfect was perfect, and so MS-DOS became
de rigeur for business. Excel was born on the Mac. Windows 3.1 WAS the
killer app, with WYSIWYG printing, the Lotus port was an afterthought.
Netscape got big right around the time Eternal September rolled around
and Microsoft deliberately ran them out of town. So it's a combination
of a killer ap, a good user interface, and underhanded business practices.
