Status bar on FF4 has been removed with FF4b7pre (I think) and there seems to
be no plan to bring it back. See thread "How to bring back Status Bar on
   Firefox 4"

You may either use SeaMonkey 2.1x (which fortunately does not seem to follow
this silly configuration oversimplification race of FF) or install an extension
to get the status bar back (link was posted in the thread above):
   https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/235283/

I tried it on OS/2 with Rich's latest 4.0b8pre and it works fine. Additionally
it shows the load progress as a green line in the location bar. To make it
   visible
you have to show the Add-On toolbar. You may configure it in the Add-On
   manager.
Let's hope the extension will still be available for final FF4.
