   The powers-that-be didn't like the status bar and had indicated long ago   
   that they were going to get rid of it.  View->Toolbars has an 'Add-on bar'   
   option that puts a bar at the bottom of the window but the browser itself   
   doesn't use it.    There may be an option to restore it but I couldn't   
   find it in about:config.
