I can't find my original thread, but wanted to add this piece of news real bad
   -
   it is good news!!!

Namely, originally I had purchased a Gigabyte AM770T-UD3P board (AMD 770/710
chipset) and fitted it with a AMD Phenom II X2 555 CPU...I had a reasonably
   easy
time getting OS2 up and running in that configuration. However, even though
   the
CPU was a Black Edition processor and I could easily unlock the full 4 cores I
could not get OS2 to recognize the extra 2 cores using SMP mode. Whenever I
attempted to run in 4 processor mode I would get a trap in os2krnl, or the
   boot
   would stop.

A few days after my tests started the board died...not sure why...it simply
would not POST...no video output, fans come on, etc, etc. The board was a used
piece I scored off of eBay...so it's suspect at best...you get what you pay
   for,
   as the old addage goes.

After feverishly searching around I then settled on a MSI 790X-G45
   board...this
is a AMD 790/710 shipset based board, VT1828S sound chip, floppy, serial port,
etc...standard stuff, no on-board video. Well, as it turns out this board
allowed OS2 to fully recognize all the CPU cores...so basically I'm able to
   run
a 4 core SMP system here...and it is absolutely a blast. I'm like a little kid
   in a candy store!!!

UniAudio appears to support the VT1828S chip, however there may be some issues
with the controls not being initialized properly...most times sound comes
on...sometimes I need to query the 'headphones' control to turn ON the
   sound...minor annoyance really.

The built-in NIC is not supported (Atheros chipset)...no biggie, I'm carrying
over the 3Com NIC anyways from my old system.

USB ports are good, tested with a USB stick, no issues so far. Lars' latest
   drivers do cause a problem however...the boot halts...but I haven't had a
   chance
   to really debug further.

Soo...on the whole, I am very pleased. Those of you who might be considering a
hardware upgrade should look at this board, it was relatively well priced as
well, I purchase it new for $49 after the Microcenter discount.
