   Before making any major changes, you may want to experiment with the   
   various smb.conf files on your iMac.  The primary file is in /private/etc   
   but it draws in another smb.conf from /private/var/db that contains the   
   settings you may want to change.  In particular, under [global], you'll   
   probably find 'lanman auth = no' - change this to 'yes' then restart.   
      
   If that doesn't cure what ails you, you can always RTFM: smb.conf(5)
