   I don't know if it would have any real effect, but you may want to   
   try "Full hardware detection" from the Alt-F1 startup menu. Also,   
   if your keyboard is still functional after the trap, you might try   
   a C-A-D to see what happens on the reboot.   
      
   BTW... has /APIC _ever_ worked for you? If it doesn't work when you   
   don't load any USB drivers, I wouldn't expect these to change anything.
