Gigabyte GS-MA74GM-S2 mb which works with an AMD Athlon X2 socket AM3 CPU. I
would not have a clue whether I am working all the cores. I have no idea
about the driver(s) for multi-core operation others have mentioned in this
thread. The performance presently is noticeably better than the previous ASUS
   K8VSE mb, Sempron 3000+.

(to operate my HP Scanjet 5P scanner). I now run SATA HDs, got a driver to
operate the on-board NIC and have the USB system working and so use USB
keyboard and mouse and can connect USB sticks and HDs with USB adapters - all
quite gratifying but... Since MBs with AGP sockets are no longer available I
had to phase out my AGP video card and use the on-board video. With Snap
having closed I thought I had to settle with using the GRAD video with its
   slow screen redraw.

the implied statement my Snap driver can drive it! Is that right?

about setting up a RAID type 1 hard disk setup. Will OS/2 work with say an
   Adaptec 1220SA RAID card?

The simple way to get a RAID setup is to use something like the D-Link
323 or 343 NAS. With the 343 you have up to 4 disks and can have a
pair in RAID and the others as JBOD.

Remember RAID is NOT for backup!!
