I use FAT32 formatted SD cards in my camera, GPS, and audio recorder. Using a
   USB card reader, I
transfer the files to my eCS2.0 system, ensure the transferred files are
   complete and correct, then
erase them from the card, run chkdsk on it, and then eject it. Other than
   erasing the files just
before running chkdsk and ejecting the card, I never modify the card on the
   computer, so traps and
power failures, which do happen occasionally, do not cause trouble. Every few
   months, however chkdsk
finds a problem and recommends running scandisk to fix it. Just out of
   curiosity, I have tried
ejecting and reinserting the card when this has happened on several occasions.
   Sometimes after
   reinsertion I can read and write even though chkdsk thinks something is wrong;
   on other occasions,
eCS simply says the drive is unusable. On every occasion but one running
   chkdsk under windows has
fixed the problem (on my version of windows, it's called chkdsk, not
   scandisk). On one occasion, the
windows chkdsk claimed to have fixed the problem, but eCS refused to allow the
   card to be used; in
the end, I had to use DFSee to zero the entire card and reformat it. After
   formatting a card FAT32
using DFSee, I find it necessary to eject and reinsert the card then run
   chkdsk before eCS will
allow it to be used; I have never needed to run the windows version for that.
