This happens to me quite a lot recently. The problem appears to be
SeaMonkey getting stuck in a zombie state, which in turn is almost
certainly caused by the Flash 10 plugin beta.

I'd suggest checking the list of running processes when the shutdown
hang occurs. First look to see if there are any apps which you
thought you'd closed, but which still show up as running.

If nothing obvious presents itself, you could try killing processes
one-by-one (avoid killing important system processes, though). If
shutdown suddenly continues after killing a particular process, you've
probably isolated the problem. OTOH, if a particular process refuses
to die when you kill it, that may also be suggestive.
