   Given that PM is about 2 orders of magnitude more work-intensive than   
   a shell, I would consider such a "project" a sheer lunacy.   
      
   Kernel - I do not know.  In principle, I might believe that it is   
   doable by a one man team (but I would need a lot of convincing) - but   
   probably not doable by a one man old fart team.
