   Bah!  Another reason I hope Yuri switches to FreeType.  You are of    
   course right.  After a reboot, my menus look better, and the numbers in    
   the ruler are non-rotated again.   
      
   If the menus didn't come out so ugly, I'd rather have OO use the other font!
