The        AA>> back stories of the characters were far too drawn out and        AA>> extending dozens of pages before the real story line would        AA>> pick up.               JA> I read the book and LOVED it!!! That's why I checked out the        JA> show, but just couldn't get into it... Did the show end the        JA> same as the book?              Apparently MANY differences between the show and book. But I did not know       that when I reached for the book thinking I would get an advance on the next       bunch of tv episodes.                      JA> LOL - I'm sure, since the overall premise was the same, but        JA> the story was NO where near the same when it came to        JA> details, like the 'egg' and the aliens (or whatever they        JA> were)...              Yes, the tv version with the egg, the tunnels, people assimilating with the       underground life form, etc. Was very interesting.. but when I couldn't find       that in the proper places in the book, I got frustrated and skipped most of       the book.                      JA> I just finished The Institute the other day. Man! Another        JA> great one, IMHO.              It's a short one. Maybe I'll give it a try.                      AA>> ..but I don't need to read 12 pages of somebody's        AA>> fear of rape and/or a depiction of it to make sense of the        AA>> dome.               JA> So did you read the ending?              I read a bit of it. And, yes.. people's child-hood traumas play a necessary       role to appease the aliens.              I guess King wanted to parallel the childhood vulnerabilities of the humans in       Under The Dome with the childlike ant-farm experimentation and playfulness of       the aliens.                      AA>> I'm working on Hostile right now. I'm at the point where        AA>> the main char is trapped under her vehicle, broken a lower        AA>> limb, and trying to reach for her gun. Pause. Went to bed.               JA> Hostile? Not familiar with it...              I posted a bit more about it with a bit of a spoiler in ROT13 in this echo.                      AA>> In other news: I think actors get paid far too much for the        AA>> fun of pretending to be someone else.               JA> LOL - you should try local community theatre. I have been in        JA> two local productions and LOVED it!!! No pay, it's all        JA> volunteer, and LOTS of work and time, but it's VERY very fun        JA> to pretend to be someone else. :-)              Life is not at a point where I can relax and participate in fun things like       that. But it has crossed my mind. Even if I just had a bit part with a couple       of lines would have been fine.                     --        Quoted with Reformator/Quoter.
