People gradually        AA> growing nuts and turning on each other before as they gradually find        AA> ways to discover the secret of the dome they are in.              I enjoyed the first few episodes, maybe the first season, but it REALLY       jumped the shark for me... But we all like different things. :-)               AA> But King's book of the same name was terrible, imho. The back stories        AA> of the characters were far too drawn out and extending dozens of pages        AA> before the real story line would pick up.              I read the book and LOVED it!!! That's why I checked out the show, but       just couldn't get into it... Did the show end the same as the book?               AA> When one season of the tv series ended, I picked up the book version to        AA> find out what happens next. Boy, was I disappointed.              LOL - I'm sure, since the overall premise was the same, but the story was       NO where near the same when it came to details, like the 'egg' and the       aliens (or whatever they were)...               AA> I never skimmed        AA> through a book before like I did with Under The Dome. For example,        AA> King would dwell on a character's childhood, or a trauma in the past        AA> for far too many pages before the main storyline would pick up.              Again, opinions differ - I personally LOVE the character development he       gives and it's THAT, those personal things that are 'dwelled on' that       make the character resonate with me. I feel like I KNOW people in his       books when I finish them..              I just finished The Institute the other day. Man! Another great one,       IMHO.               AA> I just wanted to know how the dome got created, and why, and the human        AA> struggle to solve the mystery and escape. I found it uncompelling to        AA> even care about a certain adult's childhood dreams and fears. Granted,        AA> part of the psychology of the human chars plays a role in describing        AA> their approach to working together or not to solve their trapped        AA> dilemma, but I don't need to read 12 pages of somebody's fear of rape        AA> and/or a depiction of it to make sense of the dome.              So did you read the ending?                AA> I have read some of King's other works that have also been made into        AA> film. Carrie wasn't too bad, although some situations deviated between        AA> film and book.              Most all of them do deviate. It's two different mediums, and there's NO       way they can do ANYTHING on film that rivals the unlimited potential of       one's imagination.               AA> The Green Mile is another that was both good as book and film. Both        AA> of those, book version and film version, were fast-paced, to the point,        AA> with very little back-story as filler.              I think Green Mile is the most accurate adaptation of any of his works! As much       as I loved 11/22/63 as a mini series, it still wasn't as good as the book       to me. But Green Mile... wow - it's like they took the pages and filmed them.       :-)               AA> I'm working on Hostile right now. I'm at the point where the main char        AA> is trapped under her vehicle, broken a lower limb, and trying to reach        AA> for her gun. Pause. Went to bed.              Hostile? Not familiar with it...               AA> In other news: I think actors get paid far too much for the fun of        AA> pretending to be someone else.              LOL - you should try local community theatre. I have been in two local       productions and LOVED it!!! No pay, it's all volunteer, and LOTS of work       and time, but it's VERY very fun to pretend to be someone else. :-)                            ...
