Sounds all too familiar to my observartions here in Canada -- I like that:
turning safety nerts into hammocks. That's excactly it here, too.

Now, with covid funding of ~$2,000/month going to those out of work, there's
little incentive to drag one's lazy no work ethic arse up & out to an actuyal
   job.

Goofy. I'd rather turn down a free $2K(of publicly generated monies) to work
   for $1,900

I've done it, too. . . I'm on disability, so quite grtateful for hat net,
especially as emplyers often have a thing against hiring the disabled, even
though I cvompete fairly. When I apply for a job, I'll be doing it better than
the rest, usually by a long shot. I don't seek short cuts or hammocks.

Now I just need to figure out how to communicate this to employers in the
language & manner they expect/want. But the rules for resumes, cover letters &
   interviews change by the week.
