     I remember that commercial and thought it was funny.   
     Until I was working in parking.   
     It was so nice over summer break, only a few hundred summer school   
   students on campus, life was easy, the lazy, crazy days of summer (to quote Nat   
   King Cole).  Summer time, when the living was easy, to paraphrase the   
   Gershwin's.   
     But then came August and _they_ (said in a mix of dread disgust)   
   returned, the students.  Like a plague of locust filling not the sky but   
   campus.   
      When life went back to reality.   
      I would be asked what I was looking forward to in the new (school) year   
   and I would reply "when they go away in May".

     We had a local hardware store in town, a couple of blocks away from me   
   downtown, that carried everything imaginable in stock.  They had been in the   
   same place for decades and like stepping into the past in the store.  Not   
   made to look that way, just the way   
      Starting around Independence Day they would have one or two Christmas   
   items out.  Then bit by bit, a little here, a little there, and by September   
   their Christmas stuff was out.  First s small corner then like a rash it grew   
   to about about a quarter of the
