I'm not familiar with Mageia, but that shouldn't be an issue. I'll do what
   I can to help.

Besides the config file, I'll also need a little information about
directories and how you are providing access to the file area.

In my case, I just have a symlink /var/www/files that points to
/var/spool/mbse/ftp (which is the same as /opt/mbse/ftp/pub)

In my apache config, I use 'Options FollowSymLinks', but you should be able
to use an Alias and make sure to have the appropriate
   section.

Sounds like Mageia may have a more security minded default apache config in
   place.

Wow! That sounds nicer than my workstation at home, and definitely more
than I toss at any of my home servers.

My BBS is using a 4G Compact Flash for the boot drive, then NFS mounting my
file server for storage (msg and file areas). I've been tempted to move all
the BBS files to the file server, then make it so I can bring up a VM to
host the BBS if I even need to take the hardware offline for an extended
length of time... although I think that would be a bit overkill with the 1
or 2 users that might connect every week.
