|    Problem with mbfido when tossing mail    |
|    29 Oct 11 14:31:47    |
Hello Michiel!              I have been noticing error messages coming from mbfido when tossing mail that       could be coming from fidonet or usegroups (as I get 10-12 usegroup areas as       well).              This is some good examples:              ? 27-Oct-2011 18:30:04 mbfido[8383] iconv(\e2\81\82 "Because all you of Earth       are idiots!"\n) cd2: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character              ? 27-Oct-2011 18:30:04 mbfido[8383]       iconv(\c2\af`\c2\b7.\c2\b8\c2\b8.\c2\b7\c2\b4\c2\af`\c2\b7->       \e2\80\bbfreemont\e2\80\bb       <-\c2\b7\c2\b4\c2\af`\c2\b7.\c2\b8\c2\b8.\c2\b7\c2\b4\c2\af\n) cd2: Invalid or       incomplete multibyte or wide character              ? 29-Oct-2011 00:30:06 mbfido[14323] iconv(Dag-Erling Sm\c3\b8rgrav -       des@des.no\n) cd2: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character              Now doing a set | grep LANG shows this:              LANG=en_GB.UTF-8       LANGUAGE=en_GB.UTF-8:en_GB:en              Under mbse menu 1.15.4 it is set to ISO 8859-1.       Under mbse menu 0.12 or 13 its CHRS kludge CP437 2       Under users setting (ok, me anyway) Charset is the same CP437 2.              Can't find any other setting for Charset.              Question what is actually happening here and does it drop the msg that has        this       error?              It would be helpful if the error msg included the usegroup or echo area to       which the msg comes from.              I must admit that this and other problems relating to editing program source       code has been noticed since Mandriva switched LANG to UTF-8 and I would like        to       swich it to one more in keeping with English, eg, CP437 or 8859-1, just not       sure which to use and what if any problems that will cause.              For those that would like to know, the entire english language character set       fits easily within the 0-255 decimal, so does not need a second char for       accents etc as they are not used.              Vince              --- Linux/Mbse/GoldED+/LNX 1.1.5        * Origin: Air Applewood, The Linux Gateway to the UK (2:250/1)    |
