   Hi Gert,

   I'm running on Gentoo and I'm not having any of the issues with startup
   you seem to be experiencing.

   Is the first line of your startup script: (/etc/init.d/mbsebbs)

   #!/sbin/runscript

   That is required to include all the dependencies for the Gentoo startup
   macros to work.

   Also, make sure that you are fully updated. ("emerge --sync --quiet;
   emerge -v --update system world") As I'm sure you know, this can take a
   while to complete.
