ac> I don't know. You should really install CVS.

   CVS is out of discussion

I have to handle still git, svn and bazaar
so either download via http, ftp works .. but please no addtl other
   versioning system

   so therefor again the question
   is the source
    -d:pserver:anonymous@makenl.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/makenl
    co -P makenl
identical to the tarball for download from
    http://makenl.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/makenl/?view=tar
   ?!?

    US>> ok, downloaded the .tar.gz package ...
US>> first try throws error regarding %pat% .. it must be a newer
US>> revision :) compared the .wat files ... added object patmat.obj
ac> Your source tree is still not in sync?

than it is in sync, as I've unpacked the tarball downloaded as
   http://makenl.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/makenl/?view=tar
and used it for compile in a plain version control system free directory
the only difference was the make file that doesn't work with the
   long filename for the .watcom
so I have to customize this makefile so it works under 8.3 filename
convention, copied over the makefile from prev revision (3.3.3)
that did result in the %pat% missing declaration error message on compile
comparing the two makefiles on another machine revealed the
patmat.obj difference in the makefiles, that I've corrected in the
customized one ... all other source files .c, .h and whatever is still
in sync if you can confirm that the tarball for download under
   http://makenl.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/makenl/?view=tar
is identical what you transfer under
    -d:pserver:anonymous@makenl.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/makenl ...
   to the central repository

ac> I don't want to waste my time looking for a bug that isn't in the
    ac> CVS.

I still didn't get CVS up and running. So I can only use the sources listed
   above.
