   Yes, ICANN has authorised limited use. In May 2010 the TLDs for Egypt, the   
   Russian federation, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emeriates were created in   
   their native languages.

   Yes, it is awful isn't it? I just mentioned it to show that the rest of the   
   world has freed itself from the ASCII only chains.  Punycode is so awfull   
   because it is limited to the characters a-z, 0-9 and '-'.   
      
   Fidonet does not have that limitation, it is an 8 bit channel, so for us there   
   are better solutions.
