   The specs clearly say it returns -1 on error. So other negative values could   
   be valid handle values.   
      
   I have looked at the source code for a range of Borland and Embarcadero   
   compilers of the _findfirst function. They just return the -1 on error, no   
   other values. Of course it doesn't mean that compilers of other brands do the   
   same, but it's a little evidence. ;)
