ARLX005 Former ARRL Vice Director Jim Mozley, W2BCH (SK)

James M. Mozley, W2BCH, who served as Vice Director of the ARRL
Atlantic Division from 1986-89, died May 13 at age 89 at the
Veterans Administration Hospital in Syracuse, New York. A long-time
resident of Camillus, New York, Jim was active in the ARRL Western
New York Section as an Assistant Section Manager and as an Official
Emergency Station. He also served as an Official Observer from 1991
   through 2004.

In addition, Mozley served as the Section Emergency Coordinator,
Western New York section, when Bill Thompson, W2MTA, became the
   Section Communications Manager in 1980.

Jim was a nuclear engineer who last worked at University Hospital,
Syracuse University. He was among the contingent of nuclear
scientists who traveled to the Soviet Union to review their nuclear
facilities, including the one in Chernobyl before the disaster in
   1985.

A Field Artillery Lieutenant, Jim served in World War II in Europe.
He leaves his wife Betty and daughter Mary M. Robert, KB0MYX.

Atlantic Division Assistant Director Vivian Douglas, WA2PUU, who was
a close friend of Jim's, told the ARRL: "Jim worked with me [in
various volunteer capacities] since we became ham friends 38 years
ago. He never said 'no' when called -- regardless of weather or
conditions. He was proud of being a part of ham radio and the ARRL."

of information posted, or the opinions expressed, contact the content
originators directly. All publications retransmitted as

Gentlemens' agreements ratified by IARU regions 1 and 2 have
designated a global "center of activity" frequency in each
of the international hf bands. THese are similar to the
concept for weak signal calling and other center of activity
frequencies. Three of these have been ratified worldwide.

THese center of activity frequencies are where stations can
go to render or obtain emergency assistance.

WHen casually operating or contesting on hf please make
yourself aware of these frequencies, and give them some
space. Remember that often stations with emergency needs are
not those utilizing high gain antennas and maximum legal
   power.
