Subject: that time of year again (2/2)

RW> after the show, because I tried to anticipate their needs.

I think Joni Mitchel said it well, "You don't know what you got 'til it's
   gone."

When we packed in the bass-players buddy, we were shopping for a new tech. As a
sub, we had a fella that mixed international acts in stadium shows. Later, I
realized he was in charge of an Alice Cooper show I attended at our football
stadium, (I forget if this was the first time I saw Jeff Beck. There was
*somebody* I was there to see. }:-) where I saw a stack get blown down during a
rain storm. Anyway, within ten minutes, this fella had the reverse slap echo in
place and the room tuned. I couldn't BREATH on my kit without it sounding like
I intended to, and the whole troupe KILLED the show all night.

The second night, his boss from his day gig (*The* PA supply house here at the
time.) filled in. Everybody left the stage at *every* break frustrated. BTW,
Alice Cooper had some good backing, but was he EVER a drunken mess at the time.
I heard his rider included "... As much golf and Canadian beer as I can handle"
   or words to that affect.

RW> Biggest problem I'd have with them was communication, they
RW> couldn't just use hand signals and point to tell me what
   ...
You whining *again*, Richard? This brings up
*another* point regarding your lack of sight and how it might influence your
workday that I never imagined. "Take it to the SURVIVOR echo." I'll
serve you cheese to go along with it there!

Ya, I never *thought* that the size of the menu display was a non-issue to you
   before today!

RW> As well as what the different lubes are supposed to be used
    RW> for.

I barely know what lithium *is*, but I *think* I can use it appropriately.
Automobile lubricants and small engine oil I'll likely *always* struggle to
understand, but I make it my charge to find the right one on the shelf and
hopefully catch it in time if I grabbed the wrong product in haste. It's all
good to know what you can, and look it up if your unsure.

I used a synthetic for a road-trip one summer. I sent mom out to pick up a
spare bottle of the specific brand and weight while I filled the gas tank.
Halfway down the road, I noticed she didn't only miss the synthetic part, she
got the weight wrong AND, picked up some cheap off-brand CRAP! "Mr. Bradley
found by chance a oil supply warehouse, of all things!" I start firing off my
questions one after the other, and the fella was VERY accommodating to my
ignorance. My mechanic of the time, used 10W40 Syntech and after asking every
retail store that sold wiper-blades, I FINALLY found "my guy" and he turned out
to one of the *nicest* humans you could meet.

Turns out, as long as you stay with the same brand, the detergents don't fight
   each other. 10W30 + 10W40 turns into 10W30<40. Synthetic + "organic" > =
"blended". When I heard him say, "I'm not the smartest about this, but the
people I asked said these words." Turns out his humility put a "cherry" on that
that "cake". I could have kissed his feet right there!

    JB> Right-handed sewer flute? ...
JB> The Blue Man Group into a classical score?

RW> Maybe both. See Dallas's post on the left handed sewer
RW> flute. I replied to it, but had a little technical
RW> difficulty here and it never made it upstream.

Oh, I *think* I'm *not* too thick to miss the references already bandied about.
Thanks for the chuckles and your so many insights!

RW> ... NO highs, no lows, must be Bose.

Ya, heard that one too from the fella that installed half of our theatres in
Calgary. I ran into him at our local "sell you crap so you can feel like a rock
star" store, where I asked him if he was lowering his standards in his
listening room or for his near-field monitors. He informed me that an
independent house used Bose, where we both laughed hardily.
