   Quite possible. I am using 4.4.157 currently on my slackware box. That's the   
   slackware shipped one and it works wonderfully for me so I don't worry about   
   updating it until the slackware people update it.   
      
   I also have a laptop running slackware current that is more up to date than   
   that, 4.14.73 is what it runs and it does evertyhing it does nicely.
