   Whilst perusing Usenet on Mon, 19 Feb 2007 23:51:40 +0000, I read
   these words from Moog  :
   >"Josiah Jenkins" illuminated the devils arse on Monday 19 February 2007
   >23:38 in alt.os.linux.ubuntu by typing:
   >
   >I had a similar problem with my mini-pci WiFi.
   >In my case... I needed to remove IPv6
   >
   >Open a terminal window....
   >$ sudo gedit
   > /etc/modprobe.d/aliases
   >
   >replace
   >alias net-pf-10 ipv6
   >
   >with the following four lines (the off gives a clue to what it's doing)
   >
   >alias net-pf-10 ipv6 off
   >alias net-pf-10 off
   >alias ipv6 off
   >#alias net-pf-10 ipv6
   >
   >Reboot...
   >
   >Check it's worked by typing
   >$ ip a | grep inet6

   Despite crawling the net for info on the matter, I'm still
   struggling with this installation. I had an internet connection
   via the wireless network *once*. I updated the depository
   and software and ended up with a newer kernel number !
   Ooops ! On re-boot, I lost the Wi-Fi . . .

   I decided to re-install to get a 'clean sheet' to work with
   (reckoning on doing another update but at least I'd have
   some idea of what would happen thereafter)

   Now, even after altering the alias file, I can't get the above
   query to return a blank line (presumably it should ?).

   Instead I get_'inet6 ::1/128 scope host'_ returned

   I've now re-installed several times (5 ?) using a wireless
   connection but always get the above.

   So I dug out an ethernet cable and connected into the router
   with my old Xircom Ethernet 10/100 + 56K modem card.
   (I have lights on both router and card and the card does
   show up in the 'Connections' box in 'Network Settings')

   This time I get *two* lines from the query :
   '_ inet6 ::1/128 scope host_'
   '_ inet6 fe80::210:a4ff:fec5:67c7/64 scope link_'

   And 'pings' to the router still fail 100%.

   Any ideas ?
   >
   >You may also wish to blacklist it (a good idea if it gets you a connection)
   >sudo echo "blacklist ipv6" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

   Would this, on its own, be enough ?
