   I would recommend making a change to your crontab to increase legibility.   
   Instead of explicitly listing out the minutes, use:   
      
   */5 * * * * killall -USR1 xfdesktop   
      
   The "*/5" means "every 5 minutes". By the same token, "*/10 is every 10   
   minutes, */12 is every 12 minutes, etc...
