   That's right, if you have a connection.  If you are setting up the dsl   
   modem for the first time, it must be recognized.  Once the dsl modem is   
   "seen" by network, all works fine.   
      
   It's been over a year, but I jumped all the necessary hoops on the   
   sbcglobal website.  Their customer support can walk you through it.
