   I don't know how 'informed' we can make your choice. IMHO - I'd prefer to   
   go with Ubuntu (I actually prefer Kubuntu or at least Ubuntu with the K   
   desktop installed) for the simple reason that it's been here longer.   
   Furthermore, I'd not go with an unreleased development Feisty - as you   
   mentioned, in alpha, not even beta yet. I'd go with 6.06 (Dapper) since it   
   has Long Term Support which 6.10 and 7.x don't. It has also been out long   
   enough to get the kinks worked out.
